Want To Age Slower And Look Younger? Get Some Delta Sleep!

I am so amazed by what people would put their body through to look younger: the knives, the needles, the injections, the blood, the drugs...And that’s not even talking about the money they spend: surgery, creams, ointments, spas, massage, diet consultant, personal trainer. Is it me or people are just obsessed will stopping the aging process.

Let’s face it, aging, happens no matter what you do. You can hide it with some skillful surgery or makeup feat, you might be able to look younger on the outside, but the inside is still shriveling little by little.

Now grated, you might be able to slow down that process with healthy habits, such as diet and exercise, and that’s great. But what about that secret ingredient that secret ingredient that so many people seem to be missing, or not considering when trying to either look younger, or age slower.

Let me tell you what that secret is: SLEEP. Yes that’s right sleep can make you look like you are 20 years old, or 70, when in reality you are 50!

Now I can already hear you “Wait a minute, this guy is full of crap, that’s no secret, I already know that getting more sleep will make me age slower.” Well NOT AT ALL!! That’s not what I am saying; getting MORE sleep will not necessarily make you age slower.

This is where it gets interesting: more sleep is not synonymous with good. However, good Delta (deep restorative sleep) is the answer.

You see, there is a huge difference between quality and quantity, and when it comes to sleep, guess which one is more important...Not quantity, but quality. That’s right the type and quality of sleep you get is probably 100 times more important than its quantity.

You could be sleeping 8 to 10 hours a night, but if you are not getting the right kind (Delta) of sleep, you are not reaping nearly half of its full benefits. You could however be sleeping 6 hours, going through 4 cycles of Delta sleep, and be on your way to a younger looking body.

Now you might think “What the heck is this guy talking about, Delta, cycles...what’s all that”.

Let me give you a brief introduction to what could become your new best friend: Sleep. Let me make it simple for you. Sleep is divided into 2 parts: Non-Rem and Rem. Non-Rem is further divided into 4 stages, through which your body, SHOULD go through successively: Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4.

For the purpose of this article, let’s not get into the REM or other first 3 stages, but let’s talk about Stage 4, or Delta (also called deep) sleep. It is during Delta sleep that your body secretes Growth Hormone (or GH), and as a matter of fact, as I explain it in my book “How To Get A Better And Healthier Sleep Starting Tonight”, 80% of growth hormone is produced during deep sleep. Now why I am so interested in GH? Let’s go back to the anti-aging topic: GH stimulates the secretion of another hormone called “insuline like growth factor”, whose job is to:

-Maintain muscle mass
-Maintain bone mass
-Promote healing of injuries
-Repair tissues
-Stimulate general body growth
-Regulate aspects of metabolism

In other words it’s job is to maintain your body repaired, functioning and YOUNG!

If you do not enter Delta sleep at night, you probably are not producing enough GH and the result is that your body is not capable of maintaining and repairing itself properly. This inevitably lead to a faster aging process and an older looking you!

Low levels of GH cause: fatigue, reduced capacity for exercise, muscle weakness, impaired cognition, depression, pain, and decreased muscle mass, which are all synonymous with an aging body.

So you want to look younger and age slower; ok. Keep up with the good and healthy habits (diet and exercise) but you better start worrying not about getting more sleep, but about getting Delta sleep. Check out those 10 Sleep Tips to get started
